Fight Club (Video)
The film fight club is definitely one of my favorite movies of all time. Before taking this class, I did not even notice the wide array of gothic elements that are present in the film. The movie is dark, grotesque, contains a doppleganger(dual nature), and very masculine. On top of that, "Tyler Durden's" house is analogous to a run down castle, another element that is prevalent in many gothic works. Marla is similar to a femme fatale, which is a mysterious and seductive woman, also a gothic characteristic. These elements combine in a synergistic manner to produce a very dramatic film, which keeps you on the edge of your seat, filled with mystery.

This too is one of my favorite movies! I thought it was interesting that it was a novel before the movie, who knew?! I also like that the gothic elements are more noticeable to me now after taking this class
ReplyDeleteI agree. It was definitely interesting to watch this movie after learning about Gothic elements. Before I would have never recognized how Gothic this film is, but after knowing different Gothic elements, it was interesting to be able to see those played out in a movie, specifically, the use of doppelgangers and grotesque fighting. I enjoyed the fact that we were able to see the Gothic elements instead of making them up in our own imagination while reading.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the post about coming to a new awareness about the movie. Fight Club has been a favorite of mine for many years but I have never taken the time to break down and examine all the different parts. I also agree that the gothic elements begin to appear after taking the class.
